Khor Virap
Yerevan – Khor Virap – Noravank – Bird Caves – Areni village – Old Bridge winery or Tushpa winery – Yerevan
A trip to the Ararat valley. Excursion to the Khor Virap Monastery, which in Armenian means “Deep Pit”, into which the future first Catholicos of the Armenian Apostolic Church, Gregory the Illuminator, was thrown for many years. The monastery is located opposite Mount Ararat (5165 m.), where the state border of Armenia with Turkey passes. From the walls of the monastery offers a panoramic view of the majestic mountain.
Further, the route passes among the picturesque mountains and gorges towards the Noravank Monastery (XII-XV centuries) – the spiritual center of the Orbelyan principality, where prominent figures of Armenian medieval culture lived and worked.
A visit to the bird cave – Areni-1, in which during the excavations the oldest leather shoes in the world 5.5 thousand years old and the oldest winery in the world 6100 thousand years old were found.
Drive to Areni village famous for its vineyards and wine.
Dinner.
